A Surprise Proposal At The OKC Hefner Lighthouse
If you’re from the OKC metro area you have at least seen or heard of the big lighthouse at Lake Hefner. It’s by far one of the most classically romantic spots in the Oklahoma City area. Despite the wind, killer geese, & wind surfers its pretty flipping romantic. So it’s no surprise that lots of people pop the question there at the Hefner Lighthouse. This one is by far one of the most special proposal pictures session I’ve ever done in my career though.
When I was in middle school my teacher Mrs. Noble was such a big part of making the transition into being a teenager easier. Especially for a super strange boy who was going from a normal kid to a punk rocker who didn’t shower near enough, wore two different color chuck taylors, and sported old man clothes he found at the local thrift store. Fast forward about a million and a half years to when my kids got a new principal at their elementary school. Mrs. Noble got to help my little odd ball boys flourish at school. We are so happy she is a part of our life. A few weeks ago I got a call from Aaron, a nice guy who wanted to ask his girlfriend to marry him and wanted her families favorite photographers to capture the moment. Our favorite principals daughter, Bailey, was about to get the surprise of her life! When I arrived at the lighthouse I walked around pretending to take photos of the scenery. I got a text letting me know the entire family on both sides were all waiting in the car to watch the moment happen. As they walked down the pathway Aaron dropped to his knee & she melted right then. It is one of my favorite things to photograph. There is no posing, no direction, no asking them to smile, its all raw real emotion. Like I told Bailey after the fact. I’m so excited to do these because it connects you to people forever. They will tell their grandchildren about the moment he proposed to her and my photographs will always be a part of that story now. Check out a few of my favorites from Aaron’s surprise marriage proposal.
